Fried Chicken in the Air Fryer

img_1371 img_1373A friend and I decided to try fried chicken in my air fryer. So far I had only made French fries – which hadn’t been too bad!  My son had tried donuts, but they had been a major fail.

Our first try didn’t come out very well with us following the instructions and the chicken sticking to the pan – with the breading coming off with each flip.

I decided to try it again today with much better results.  Today I totally skipped the instructions which I think were written by someone that doesn’t have a clue how to write recipe books.  – basically I totally ignored most of the instructions.

I decided to dip my chicken in buttermilk – making sure it was covered in buttermilk.  In a ziplock bag, I mixed flour, garlic powder, salt, onion powder, cumin, paprika, poultry seasoning, and anything else that was nearby and sounded good.  I then sprayed the bottom of my air fryer with oil.

Shaking the chicken in the ziplock with the flour mixture, I made sure and coated each piece of chicken before putting it into the pan.  Setting the fryer to chicken – 20 minutes I turned on the air fryer.  Every 5 minutes I would stop the fryer and flip the chicken.  At one point at about 1/2 way through I sprayed the chicken with a little olive oil.

My favorite air fryer now though is the Ninja. I’ve debated updating to the new intelligent version, but for now I have one step down that is a little smaller. My ninja has a few options! For fried chicken, mushrooms, oysters, onions, and more it works great and it’s easy to clean!
